Basing a game's design around such a concept is going to naturally limit the audience. It requires additional setup and equipment, that the average player isn't going to bother with. You will have to come up with a custom solution using a single audio listener.Īs many have already stated, it is a considerably more niche use-case. Unfortunately, you cannot just add an Audio Listener for each player and then direct each audio to separate speakers or headphones. Anyway, I would suggest building a few prototypes of your local multiplayer game idea. If I had done multiple separate monitors instead of spit screen, I would have need a different solution for the audio. I did it that way to preserve performance, and because there was so much blasting going on that having potentially four copies of that blasting would likely overwhelm most people. For example, in Disputed Space, all local players can hear their own weapons fire, but only the primary player can hear nearby noises like other ships firing. In a split screen local multiplayer game, there are some tricks you can do with sound. You would need to include a setup tool to let gamers tell the game how the additional monitors where oriented in the room. However, with two separate monitors, the monitors could be turned at different angles (including back to back on a table), and that would make it very challenging to build a solution to properly fake multiple sound listeners. With split screen multiplayer, you can build your own solution to fake the sounds since all 2-4 players share the same screen. For example, if you have multiple monitors with one player per monitor, you still only get one sound listener. On top of that, there are some tech issues with how the engine manages sound. Some Steam gamers will even complain when developers take the time to add a local multiplayer option in games, because they often feel the developer "wasted" time on a local multiplayer feature.

Most PC players want a single player game or a multiplayer game with one person per PC. Maybe I'm missing something, but Haze said could be controller issues, no directinput support.I personally like local multiplayer gaming experiences, but most Steam gamers do not. I've tried a few controllers and none work with this sadly, keyboard works fine. Global inputs allow control when window not in focus soo 2 instances can be controlled (1 in focus 1 not), drawback seems to be controller support as raw input is only picked up, video above shows them both contolled by same keyboard. I guess the more versions you want to run on 1 pc you will need cfg\nvram folders and launch run mame the ammout of time for each player. All these like M2 have to be setup in the service mode accordingly. Video above has 1 mame folder and 2 cfg \ nvram folders confiqured when launching.Ĭomm\IP settings & Global_inputs can be set either in INI or by command line. Comm Settings or IP have to be setup, I ran it by having 2 copies of mame running from thier own folder. Mame can now communicate over network or via multiple instances running. These require no special set up and work by setting mame as dual screen, normally they are set as twin mode in service screen as default so nothing extra is really required for them to work. Please anyone jump in if I''m missing anything.įirst things dual mointor games. Well, a few things are going on here so I'll try break it down as well as I understand them. Would be great to have this work like the m2 multiplayer works, only problem I had with that was you had to change the network info in service mode if you wanted to switch between 1 & multi. I just made a second copy of my mame folder.

The video shows one guys using one install of mame with 2 cfg\ nvram folders. Would be painful if this is hindered by controller issues. Some work on dual screen games aswell Air Rescue and Gp Ryder.

I did see a webpage which would test your input with the rawinput api so going to see what that says. My Mcatz wheel pedals worked but the wheel made it steer to the left. Need to test more now offical release out as I tested an earlier build.

I had problems with my ps2 pads & usb converter not being received. I 2 was going to mention this, it only works with raw input system, so your controllers have to support it natively.
